COLUMBUS ART COMPETITION

KS4 submitted some fantastic entries for the Columbus Art Competition.

Class 17 worked on Roald Dahl stories and created a poster presenting all the characters from ‘James and the Giant Peach.’ All students worked on individual tasks using different methods and materials for their project.

Class 16 chose to create a design relating to the Chinese New Year celebrations. This links to the PSD curriculum (Developing confidence and responsibility and making the most of their abilities: Communities and cultures) and RE (Festivals and Celebrations). The design depicts plum blossom, which is a major symbol for the festivals representing good luck and prosperity.

The learners used different types of pumps and straws to create the branches, achieving different textures and finger printed the blossom onto the design. The writing was researched and a ‘rubbing’ method was used to put the outline onto the canvas. Learners then carefully ‘filled in’ the letters.

Class 15 enjoyed listening and discussing the story of Matilda.
