From The Principal…

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to 2016!

This new term is an exciting time for us all as we look forward to working with more children than ever before! From our first week back, we will have 238 children and young people whom we will be supporting to reach their full potential in their school and home lives.

In the coming weeks we are to host a number of music training events which will include iPad music Apps and methods in “ Soundabout”, an approach which enables young people to communicate their needs and views through music. I am sure so many of you will agree with me that music is one of the most powerful tools to engage a young person in learning and we will be very keen to learn how these new approaches can enhance what we deliver for our children and young people within their day to day learning experiences.

Inset training for the first two days of the academic year will focus upon epilepsy awareness training, moving and positioning training for our non-ambulant learners and training in safeguarding.

The safety and wellbeing of our young people is paramount and I am very pleased that we continue to be able to provide the level of expert guidance to our support teams.

The quality of teaching and learning also remains very high on my agenda. I am very pleased to share with parents that following teachers’ performance being observed at the end of the academic year via drop-ins and formal observations, 100% of teaching and learning graded was ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ – an ongoing tremendous effort and accomplishment for teachers and their Heads of Learning and no more than our children and young people deserve!

Thank you to everyone who attended our recent Christmas fundraising events. The Christmas Fair, Carols by Candle-light and Christmas Shopping and Pamper Evening were well attended and raised nearly £3,250.00.

We hope to be able to organise another social event for staff and families later this term to raise money for therapies and we hope you will be able to join us – more information to follow in due course.
